    1. DJ PERSUASION - Jameela EP

      Ulterior Motives launch their main label with a single from DJ Persuasion, featuring a Liftin’ Spirits remix from Ant Miles. The label, which is helmed by DJ and producer Noah Tucker, began life in 2021 with an anonymous edit of a much-loved underground hip hop gem. Two further 12”s in the white label series followed along similar lines, joining the dots between jungle, footwork and r’n’b in UM style.       The instantly warm and inviting "Did You Love Me?" has been a secret tool of LNS and DJ Sotofett for the greater part of the season. With it's strings and pads, classic house breakbeats and driving bassline the white label was mistakenly called "the proper house remix of Current 82". Second track is a merge of Acid and Dub with an intense sonic signature and chugging deep rhythm. On the full B-side is the grand epic Dub-Techno Stepper titled "Dub You Loved Me?". Spiraling in just below 10 minutes this ultra heavy remix transcends the true fashion of Dub in Club Music with and excursion through pulse, punch, pressure and harmonies. Learn More

      With a name change comes a new angle: Fergus Jones (FKA Perko) turns down a collaborative route for his debut album with Numbers. There’s the familiar stuff from Jones: skipping stone reverb across puddles of dub beats on ‘Can’t Touch’, the morphing, clanging bells and tailspinning bass spirals on Huerco S. assisted ‘Heima’, which James K’s susurrations breathe life into. Then there’s ‘Tight Knit’, where Jones melds effortlessly with murky trap adjacent rhythms, quivering low frequencies matching the tension of Bristolian collective Cold Light’s lyricism. This variety bubbles all over Ephemera, switching from crisp clacking percussion to prickly rainfall ambience and Koreless’s signature touch of warm, mottled synths. Learn More
